Money Guiders - Tracey Huzzey

The Money Guiders Network is a free UK-wide programme designed to help individuals and organisations develop the skills and confidence to have effective conversations about money. Aimed at professionals whose role involves supporting others with money-related challenges, the service provides practical tools to find information, explore options and access support for any kind of money matter.

We spoke with Tracey, a financial Welfare Officer at Medway Council, about how being part of the Money Guiders Network has supported her work and helped her connect with other professionals across the UK.

Tracey joined the Money Guiders Network in March 2024. As a Financial Welfare Officer, her role is to help people navigate financial challenges and ensure they receive the support they’re entitled to.

“We help people ensure they are getting everything they are entitled to. I wouldn’t say we do everything, but there’s very few things that we can't help with if people reach out to us for support”

Working directly with people Tracey is constantly looking for opportunities to expand her knowledge and stay informed about new resources and support available to those she helps.

“We’re down in Medway but somebody might bring a question from Leeds, and we learn from each other, it’s a partnership.”

For Tracey the network offers far more than training sessions alone. The questions and shared experiences from fellow members provide learning opportunities that she can take back into her own work.

“I find it a really positive experience to go to the Webinars. Even if I don’t attend all the training, I’ve got that knowledge there and I can pass it on.”

Tracey’s positive experience has also encouraged her to promote Money Guiders within her organisation. As her team established itself, they met with colleagues from a range of departments to raise awareness of the support available.

“We went round every team. We went to social care, customer services and other departments. When I mentioned the Money Guiders Network, people asked me: “Can you send me the link?””

By sharing information about the network, Tracey has helped colleagues discover resources and learning opportunities that can support their own professional development.

Whether it’s a presenter sharing specialist knowledge or another attendee asking a question in the chat, Tracey believes there is always an opportunity to learn.

“By the end of the session, I’ve always learnt something, or somebody’s put a question in the chat box, so we’ve learnt from each other.”

For Tracey the greatest benefit of the Money Guiders Network is the sense of community it creates. By bringing together professionals from across the country, the network provides a space to share knowledge, build confidence and improve the support offered to people facing money related challenges.

In closing, Tracey said:

“I just think it's very interesting to hear other people's experiences. You learn something every day.”
