Money Guiders Case Study - Amanda Mills

The Money Guiders England Network is a free programme designed to help individuals and organisations develop the skills and confidence to have effective conversations about money.
Aimed at professionals whose role involves supporting others with money-related challenges, the service provides practical tools to find information, explore options and access support for any kind of money matter.
We spoke with Amanda, a financial coach who shared how Money Guiders has supported her development and enhanced the work she does with her clients:
“I was introduced to Money Guiders by the company who did my financial coaching training. They’re huge fans of Money Guiders and always encourage people to join.
“I had no preconceived ideas. I attended my first event, and afterwards I thought - this is amazing. The network is like a Pandora’s box; everything’s out there that can support the help I give.”
The first webinar Amanda attended on financial abuse was particularly impactful and helped her understanding of issues that may affect the people who she works with.
“Unless you’ve been through these situations yourself, it’s difficult to appreciate what some people are going through. That event really opened my eyes to how to spot the signals. After I’d been to that, I wrote a LinkedIn post about the subject. There’s so much help, which I think many people don’t know about, and a great range of topics that you just don’t see anywhere else.
“To me, that’s invaluable. It’s things I wouldn’t necessarily come across, and now I know that support is out there and being able to signpost, is excellent.”
The network also helped her discover and connect to local organisations and professionals working in similar situations.
“When I’m on the Money Guiders calls, you’re seeing people from all walks of life, and I think that’s really interesting.
“I’ve noticed people from my local council on there and thought: there’s somebody just down the road who’s on this call.”
Amanda shares how to make the most of the events and how, even after the event is over, she is still supported.
“All the resources are sent out afterwards. I make sure to download the presentations and notes, so I know they’re there. Everything now acts as a resource for me moving forwards.
“It gives me comfort in attending all of these events, thinking if I ever come across this, I know where to go.”
She has become an advocate for the network and now regularly encourages fellow peers to get involved.
“I can’t believe this is out there as a free resource for people. When you compare it to other things, that you probably have to pay a subscription for, I think it’s absolutely brilliant.
“I encourage everyone who trained with me to join.”
