Money Guiders Case Study - Arantxa Gaba

The Money Guiders Network supports people who deliver money guidance by providing free training, learning resources, events and peer support. Through the network, members can build their knowledge, stay up to date with changes affecting the people they support, and connect with others working across communities throughout England.

Arantxa Gaba joined the network in 2025 while working for Our Power Hub CIC. With more than 20 years of experience in advice services, including specialist debt advice roles at Citizens Advice, Arantxa was looking for a way to refresh her knowledge and stay up to date with changes in the money guidance and debt advice landscape.

Reflecting on why she joined, Arantxa said:

“I felt there was a gap in my knowledge. People come to you with a range of different concerns, and it's important to recognise what may be affecting them and identify the priorities.

“I thought it was a perfect opportunity for me to refresh my skills without overstepping the boundaries. It seemed ideal. “

Since joining the network, Arantxa has taken advantage of a range of Money Guiders learning opportunities, including webinars and training sessions. She highlighted the value of hearing directly from experts and organisations working within the sector being discussed.

“I attended the council tax information event which was really helpful because there are quite a lot of changes going on there.

“I think the fact that you get people from the actual industries is so valuable. There were lots of new things I learned.”

Alongside live events, Arantxa has also engaged with the Money Guiders e-learning and Community Hub, which provide opportunities for continued learning and peer support.

“I signed up for the Community Hub because it’s something I previously used with Citizens Advice. It’s so valuable, especially because I’m mainly working from home on my own. We’re a very small organisation with very limited funding, and this is free training.

“The chats and the questions that come up are fascinating because there are people from all different organisations on there.”

Looking ahead, Arantxa believes there is value in creating even more opportunities for frontline practitioners to share their experience and insights about the challenges facing the communities they support.

“I think there’s a real role for people delivering money guidance to highlight what isn’t working. We get so much valuable input from the people dealing with it.

“The people supporting communities every day see the challenges first hand, and there’s a lot that can be learned from those experiences.”

Reflecting on her experience with the Money Guiders Network, Arantxa says it has been a perfect opportunity to refresh her skills without overstepping the boundaries.
